Description

Children’s Mercy Kansas City Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology Fellowship is accepting applications for July 2022.  Our fellowship program, funded by a National Institute of Health T32 grant leverages long-standing, exemplary programs in pediatric clinical pharmacology with world-renowned faculty in the areas of drug evaluation in children, impact of ontogeny of drug disposition and response, and pediatric pharmacogenetics.

Requirements

Successful applicants for the Pediatric Clinical Pharmacology fellowship training program at CMH will be either Physicians (holding the MD degree or its equivalent), Nurse Practitioners, or Clinical pharmacists (holding the PharmD or combined PharmD/PhD degree) who have completed residency and/or fellowship training in either Pediatrics (for physicians), Pediatric Pharmacotherapy (for clinical pharmacists) in an accredited training program, and are eligible for clinical licensure in the State of Missouri.  Trainees who have not received clinical pediatric or equivalent training, or who do not have extensive pediatric experience, may also be considered.  However, these trainees may be required to complete additional pediatric clinical training during the fellowship.

All applications will be viewed by the Program Director(s) and eligibility criteria may also be considered on a case by case basis. The goals of the program are to:

  • To identify and recruit physicians and pharmacists committed to an academic career in pediatric clinical pharmacology research and support their professional development in the area.
  • To provide a structured mentoring program led by a primary research mentor and advisory committee and linked to an explicit timeline and benchmarks.
  • To facilitate the preparation, submission, and successful attainment of individual career awards (K awards) for each trainee as well as NIH loan repayment awards when appropriate.
  • To foster an interdisciplinary research training program of clinical pharmacologists, physicians and other health professionals and scientists committed to the evaluation of drugs in children.

Fellows will receive a stipend commensurate with their PGY rank.  In addition to salary support and benefits, each fellow will be given appropriate office space, secretarial support, a computer, laboratory space and research support over the two years.
